When the grass is always greener
We've only been in Paris for a few weeks and it is, of course, easy to think that everything is wonderful when it is all so new and exciting. I want to share photographs on Instagram etc 1) to keep friends and family in the loop and 2) because I treat Instragram and blogger like a diary and I love scrolling back through the years. However, I also don't want to piss off everyone I know by being overly smug and delighted with Paris because it is new and exciting! There was SO much to love about our home in London but I think Sam and I are both cursed with a little 'grass is greener'. We've had itchy feet for the last two years-we nearly bought a big old Victorian house on the Oxfordshire/Buckinghamshire borders in December 2015 and I was developing a genuine rightmove addiction! I like the idea of a 'forever home' and heaven knows, I've pinterest-ed enough to know what it would look like! I just don't know if/when we'll know exactly WHERE we want that forever home to be. Sometimes I want it in Bloomsbury, on other days right on the Jurassic coast and Sam definitely imagines a place on the Cote d'Azur! I suppose Paris is exactly what we need right now as its the perfect chance to just enjoy without worrying about 'forever'. Thanks to Brexit, we have no idea how long we'll be able/allowed to stay in Paris so we're not worrying about whether we should buy here or there or wherever (even if we wanted to, property prices in Paris are well beyond our means!). The relative uncertainty means that we can simply have fun and enjoy the city without trying to imagine it as our 'forever home'. We spend every available minute exploring and eating our way across the city because at any moment, the Brexit pin may burst our bubble and we'll be back home in Harrow with some wonderful memories! So if I seem smug and overly-enthused its because I'm not looking at it with the critical eyes of a buyer but through the more relaxed eyes of a renter! Its easy to gloss over the cracks and damp patches if they're not your problem to fix!
